Course Description

This course applies to workers in the construction industry. It covers fundamental WHS requirements necessary to undertake work tasks within any sector in the construction industry. It is now a mandatory requirement for all trainers who deliver the White Card Course (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) to hold this particular unit. (Please note: This is not a White Card course).

Through video evidence, students are required to demonstrate the performance of work in a safe manner through awareness of risks and work requirements, and the planning and performance of safe work practices with concern for personal safety and the safety of others. You are also required to perform emergency first aid treatment of minor injuries. Certificates issued by Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered fully online.

Course Duration

The online learning and assessment is expected to take approximately 8 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the course in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and assessment questions.

This course is delivered fully online and will be self‑paced. Students are expected to complete this course within six (6) months after enrolment.

Entry Requirements

An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • As a registered training organisation (RTO), delivering nationally recognised training, we must verify a student's identity before undertaking the assessment. To meet this requirement, you will be required to show your photo identification to the camera and state your full name, as listed on your identification document.
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Can learn by reflecting on real work situations, asking questions about safety, and applying what I know to stay safe on site.
    • Reading: Can read and understand safety policies, warning signs, labels, and reporting procedures.
    • Writing: Can write clear, factual notes or fill in forms to report hazards, incidents, or safety checks.
    • Oral communication: Can talk clearly about safety concerns, report hazards to the right person, and ask questions if I don’t understand instructions.
    • Numeracy: Can understand measurements, quantities, and simple timeframes used in safety instructions and work plans.
    • Digital literacy: Able to use a phone or device to read messages, access online safety information, and complete simple forms or checklists.
  • Students must have access to a device with camera and audio recording capabilities, such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam. This device will be necessary for creating short videos as part of the assessment, in which students verbally explain the required assessment outcomes.
  • You will be required to provide your own:
    • Access to a real or simulated worksite (to complete practical task demonstrations)
    • Signs, barricades, materials, tools, equipment (e.g. a ladder or drill)
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety goggles, ear muffs, high‑visibility vest, safety gloves
    • Basic first aid kit
Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both practical and theory assessment tasks.

Certificate Renewal Requirements

This certificate does not specify a formal renewal period. Employers or industry regulators may set their own currency requirements.

Assessment Activities

Practical assessment (video uploads):

  • Demonstrate the correct wearing and fitting of PPE
  • Complete a verbal risk report
  • Conduct a risk assessment and safely set up a work area
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and the safe use of a tool or a piece of equipment
  • Demonstrate an emergency response and evacuation procedure
  • Provide emergency first aid treatment for a minor injury

Documentation:

Theory assessment:

A written assessment consisting of case studies, short answers and multiple‑choice questions.
